Here I am, planning on working here at home today, and the only thing I can think of is that I’m locked in this house without a Diet Coke.
I am normally a rational person, but when it comes to Diet Coke, there’s no rational thought involved.
I know people who drink diet sodas gain weight.
I know people who drink diet sodas are hungrier.
I know studies have shown that drinking diet sodas put me at higher risk for diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. I know studies have shown an association to metabolic syndrome.
I know aspartame, the sweetener in many diet sodas, has been the number one source of complaints to the FDA.
I know drinking diet sodas bothers my stomach, makes me bloated, and gives me headaches.
But I still want to start my day with one. The irrationality of it all drives my very logical scientist husband crazy.
It’s not just the caffeine because other caffeinated drinks just don’t satisfy the same way. It’s not the taste, because Diet Coke really just doesn’t taste very good.
I’m still scheming how to get one. Just one more. I can stop whenever I want to… maybe tomorrow. Or maybe I’ll do the right thing and drink a big glass of water right now.
