What’s your biggest remaining challenge?

My diet danger zones — what are yours?

I have a few places or situations in which I have a history of making Bad Decisions with regard to my weight. By being aware of them, I can make a better decision ahead of time and avoid the bad one later.

  • My car — It’s really easy to eat and drink mindlessly in the car. Especially, if I’m rushed, hungry, and don’t have an alternative available.
  • Gas stations — Not exactly a gourmet problem, is it? I have a bad habit of picking up junk at gas stations. Sodas, chips, chocolate, cookies. Stuff I wouldn’t normally eat otherwise. I can have Girl Scout cookies or Halloween candy sitting around for a year at home and never think about it.
  • Coffee shops — I go through cycles of wanting Cappuccino Blasts and Frappuccinos. Sigh. I love those fancy “coffee” drinks.
  • Fast food places — Rushed? Hungry? I’m likely to drive through and grab something and eat mindlessly.

Hmm. See common themes?

  • In car
  • Rushed, unprepared
  • Mindless eating

My strategy thus far: Bring a healthy alternative with me in the car — a bottle of water, fruit, or something like that. (I have tried simply making the car off limits all together, but that hasn’t worked very well for me.) Pay at the pump instead of going inside when gassing up. Drive different roads for a while so I avoid the two coffee shops and break that habit.

Where are your danger zones? How do you deal with them? Add a comment and let us know.

In an upcoming post, I’ll talk about dangerous states of mind for me, diet-wise.
